shores:constant

The first of a series of simulations that seek to render the way I choose to hear the world around me

Sound is a force of an incessant nature. Ever present. Even silence is experienced through the sounds that are left unlistened. This constant presence is an opportunity for engagement. To be aware of where we are. To truly heare the world around us.

We have the choice, to engage, or not. I find that tuning out this world robs me of moments that contain beauty beyond compare. I choose to hear the music in the world around me.

This project is a simulation of that world. What you hear here is akin to looking out a window at any given moment. The work goes on, is constant, we can only bare witness while we can.

This piece has no begining or end. We simply check in on it. As such I will provide cassette tapes, and or digital files, on request. Each will just be an archive of what is happening "now". And since there can be only one "now", each record will be a unique object. The animation above is used to generate the "album" art, ensuring the unique nature of each instance.

For the uber curious, the piece has been made with a minimal amount of basic ingredients for synthesis. A small script drives the note choices, these are sent to an oscilating filter which generates a lowly sine wave. This monophonic voice drifts though a granular delay and into a "tape loop" where it slowly decays over time. A filtered noise source is also pitch controled by the script, and the swells in volume are generated by a chaos circuit, slowly. Other parameters are adjusted periodcally by the script and chaos circuits.
