When I asked a group of contrebasse players for any interesting pieces that didn't have very many notes, as I am on a mission to play slower and less notey, a very generous person pointed me into the direction of a composer named James Tenney and his piece, BEAST. And while I continue to build my stamina to perform that piece, I love the nature of it and the way it is utilizing the beating of two notes that are nearly in tune. And I find myself playing this way quite often. Above is a drone on contrebasse utilizing this effect, titled in honor of the James Tenney piece which inspired me. Below is the score for BEAST, which is also a beautiful thing. As are the rest of his "postal" pieces
